Harlan Ellison Interview 1976

I have known Harlan since he was in his teens, and he is without a doubt one of the most brilliant people on the planet. I've known plenty of brilliant people, but few of them are as outspoken and willing to put themselves on the block for their art.
Many people have a problem with Harlan because he is so outspoken, but he and I have spent many hours on panels together and there are very few writers with whom I'd rather be on a panel. Conflict is the very basis of good writing. Without conflict, you have no plot, and no opportunity for character development.
